Iain MacDonald established his own company in 1995, working on landscaping and garden design projects for private clients.  His design work has evolved into a consultancy role that includes all aspects of design, especially taking an over-view on behalf of clients undertaking major renovation and development projects.

Iain works alongside architects, interior decorators and lighting designers, to achieve a final result that fulfils the wishes and expectation of clients.  Working closely with skilled craftsmen, he designs and produces architectural details in stone, metal and wood, bespoke lighting and furniture. These are used together with specially sourced period pieces to work in harmony with the surroundings of both the interior and exterior of houses.

Iain’s garden projects have included gardens for houses in the country and both small courtyard and larger London gardens.  More extensive projects have included the renovation of a Mediterranean hillside villa, creating a new entrance courtyard and cloistered garden.  Recently Iain was commissioned to restore the grounds of a West Country rectory where the brief included creating sympathetic grounds around the eighteenth century house and restoring a walled garden to link the gardens and a contemporary pool hall.

The renovation of an estate in the West Country gave Iain the opportunity to plan the complete reinstatement of an historic parkland with Pleasure Grounds of 700 acres surrounding a listed eighteenth century mansion.  Working alongside The Garden History Society, English Heritage, Natural England and other local regulatory bodies, detailed plans were submitted and approved by the planning authorities.  The plans include the renovation of an extensive walled garden and the creation of features in the parkland originally suggested in one of Humphrey Repton’s ‘Red Books’ but never undertaken at the time.
